TikTok Reportedly Beats Google As The Most Visited Online Platform

TikTok has surpassed Google as the most visited online destination, according to reports. According to data from Cloudflare, TikTok has taken over as the world’s most popular viral video platform since August. In February, March and June this year, TikTok rose to number one, maintaining the top spot since then based on statistics from Cloudflare.

TikTok is a video-sharing mobile app owned by Chinese firm Bytedance that has over one billion active users across the world.

The ranking is based on Cloudflare’s “Cloudflare Radar,” a monitor of web traffic. The company revealed the rankings this week. TikTok’s official Chinese version “Dou Yin” was banned in January after Beijing ordered the site to remove videos that were considered too risqué for young people, but the platform’s continued popularity shows that the ban has not dampened interest in the platform.

“We’re excited for TikTok to take over Google as the world’s most popular online destination,” said Bytedance founder Zhang Yiming in an interview with CNBC earlier this month.

TikTok was founded by Beijing-based ByteDance, the company behind China’s popular app Jinri Toutiao, which has more than 120 million users.

It is known for short video clips that are often several minutes long and feature subjects ranging from dance choreography to beauty tutorials, parodies and lip-syncing contests performed by celebrities.

Bytedance also operates Pinyin Without Tears, a children’s educational application that has more than 20 million active users.
